An Adults Tale

I had always heard that if you used a dating service you had an increased chance of finding a really nice boyfriend although to be honest I had never really believed in this. I never thought using a dating service was essential because for real passion, I believed you could just meet somebody, become friends, get to know each other and over time become much more intimate and trust each other more and eventually a romance would be sparked. But a dating service? I did not see the point at all. I mean, I had been on a blind date before which had been arranged by a dating service and it just was not good at all because you got about five minutes with each person and at the end of the night you ended up with about twenty numbers and not knowing anything of importance about any of the people you just met so I figured that if this was the sort of thing a dating service could provide you with, it was better just to meet somebody through your own accord! I had had many tragic dates in the past, and seriously, when I say tragic, I really do mean tragic. I remember one date I had of which the man, James was his name, had done a background check and gathered all this information about me! so not only did I feel uncomfortable that a potential stranger had been doing research on me, despite him being a detective because it was still strange to just do random research on a person, but there was just nothing to talk about because he already knew everything. He could not ask me what my favourite drink was, or what my favourite film was, or what I liked to do in my spare time, or what my favourite sport was, and so on, because he already knew the answer from his research, so basically the night consisted of sitting there wondering what the hell he was thinking, and eating a meal practically in silence. It seriously was the worst date I had ever been on. And guess what, he was part of a dating service so if that was the type of people involved in the services, the sad but clear truth was I just did not want to know in the slightest. A dating service just did not appeal to me.
